Current Status and Future Development of Chinese Language Education in Canada

This paper examines current status and future development of Chinese language education in Canada. Chinese language education in Canada shows both common features of the field as well as its own distinctive features, given that it is subject to the influence of common principles of second language learning and teaching as well as the Canadian context. Aiming at providing a rational and objective picture of Chinese language education in Canada, this paper discusses social environments, education system and regional differences that affect Chinese language education in post-secondary institutions, public schools and community schools, and future development of Chinese language education in Canada as well as factors affecting its development.
